NBS receives recognition for special contribution to promoting the right of access to information of public importance

The NBS is proud to inform the public that today, on the occasion of the International Day for Universal Access to Information, it was presented with an award at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, by the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection. The award was received for a special contribution to promoting the right of access to information of public importance, in the category of the highest public authorities.

This recognition confirms the NBS’s longstanding and consistent efforts to build an institution that promotes transparency in its work, openness to communication and dialogue, as well as accountability to citizens and other public authorities. All these principles underpin the way the NBS operates, with full commitment to the proper application of the law and respect for the rights of all citizens.

The transparency of the central bank’s operations, which complements its autonomy and independence as well as institutional accountability, is the foundation of public confidence in the financial system and macroeconomic stability. For this reason, among other things, the NBS strives to continuously develop and modernise its website and social media presence, making numerous relevant data it collects within its remit readily available to citizens and the professional community.

Representatives of the NBS, namely Vice-Governor Ana Ivković and Dejan Dević, General Manager of the Legal Department, attended the award ceremony. On that occasion, the Vice-Governor stated: “The award is well deserved because the NBS also upholds the principle of providing information quickly, accurately and to a high standard, but we go even beyond that. Information reaches those who have requested it quickly, as well as all other interested parties, through the The Public’s Right to Know section of our website”.

The NBS thanks the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection for this significant recognition, which also confirms that the central bank of the Republic of Serbia is a reliable partner to citizens, businesses, the media and society as a whole.
