Distance contracting of financial services has become an important segment of modern financial business, enabling users to access a range of financial products through digital channels without the need to visit a branch. Thanks to the application of electronic identification and authentication mechanisms, as well as the possibility of user video identification, bank and non-bank payment service providers are able to offer simpler and more efficient contracting procedures, while maintaining the prescribed standards of security and reliability. This method of contracting continues to gain in importance as a modern form of using digital channels in the financial sector, contributing to greater accessibility of financial products and a wider choice of services for users.
In Q2 2026, a total of 168,733 financial contracts were concluded at a distance, up by 25.9% from Q2 2025, when 133,973 contracts were concluded. Compared with the same period five years earlier, when 40,294 distance contracts were concluded, the total number increased 4.2-fold.
Where a user is contracting for the first time the use of financial services provided by bank and non-bank payment service providers, the user video identification procedure is applied. In Q2 2026, 39,005 contracts were concluded using this method, down by 6.5% from the same period a year earlier. Of the total number of contracts concluded via user video identification, 599 (1.5%) concerned payment services offered by non-bank payment service providers. Contracts concluded via video identification accounted for 23.1% of the total number of distance contracts in Q2 2026.
The remaining contracts in Q2 2026 were concluded through other electronic means, accounting for 76.9% of the total, or 129,728 contracts. This category recorded an increase of 40.6% compared with Q2 2025 and pertains to cases where the user already has an existing business relationship and wishes to contract the use of additional services.
Observed by the type of financial product offered by bank payment service providers, in Q2 2026 citizens made greater use of the option of distance contracting for the following services compared with the same quarter of 2025: 26,908 contracts for overdraft facilities (up by 30.6%), 83,760 loan contracts (up by 82.3%), and 3,993 contracts for other services (up by 112.1%). On the other hand, users concluded 20,233 savings contracts without visiting a bank (down by 3.2%) and 33,240 contracts for payment account opening services (down by 24.5%).
