In response to numerous complaints received by the NBS Call Centre that trade stores and other service providers refuse to accept coins issued by the National Bank of Yugoslavia, the NBS would like to reiterate several facts.
It is only the coins featuring the designation “1 new dinar” and “Narodna banka Jugoslavije” issued in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1999, and popularly known as “Avram’s new dinar,” that ceased being legal tender as of 1 January 2007.
All other coins issued by the National Bank of Yugoslavia are still in circulation, which means that trade stores and other service providers are required to accept them as legal tender. The coins remaining in circulation are 50-para, 1, 2 and 5-dinar coins featuring the designation “Narodna banka Jugoslavije“ that were issued from 2000 until 2002. In addition, all coins featuring the designation “Narodna banka Srbije”, issued since 2003 onwards, are legal tender.
