Exhibition “A Life Devoted to the Roma - Rade Uhlik”

On Wednesday, 29 January, documentary exhibition titled “A Life Devoted to the Roma - Rade Uhlik” was opened at the NBS Slavija building.

Academic Rade Uhlik (1889–1991) was one of the most significant world Romologists from the Balkans. He started studying the Romani language, culture and history a century ago, when, in 1937, he published the first collection of poems in the Romani language “Romane djilja” (Gipsy poems). Until the end of his life, Rade Uhlik published around sixty papers, four Roma-Serbian and Roma-English dictionaries, a few collections of Romani poetry and around twenty collections of Romani stories which contain around one thousand and two hundred stories in the Romani language.   

The exhibition featured all works of Uhlik, almost a half of those as his original manuscripts kept in Romology collections in Liverpool, National Museum in Sarajevo, Roma Museum in Belgrade, Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Department of Indology at the Zagreb University and private collections. The author of the exhibition is Dr Dragoljub Acković, president of the Association of Citizens “House of Roma Culture”.

The exhibition was open to the public until 19 February 2020.
