International Conference at the NBS – Еconomic Governance in Europe and EU Accession Process: What is the Role of Central Banks?

On 27 and 28 May 2015, the NBS will host the international conference “Еconomic Governance in Europe and EU Accession Process: What is the Role of Central Banks?”. The conference will be organised in cooperation with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH), which has been continuously supporting the Republic of Serbia through bilateral and regional projects on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The conference will be attended by governors of central banks of Montenegro and Albania, vice-governors of central banks of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovenia and Turkey, representatives of central banks of EU candidate and aspiring candidate countries, and representatives of the European Central Bank, European Commission and relevant institutions of the Republic of Serbia. The conference will be opened by NBS Governor Ms Jorgovanka Tabaković, while Minister of Finance Mr Dušan Vujović and Minister Without Portfolio for European Integration Jadranka Joksimović will, among others, address the participants.

The global economic crisis has revealed a strong interdependence of EU member states and their neighbours, and has highlighted the need to improve the existing mechanisms of economic policy coordination. In this context, new economic governance in the EU also affects candidate countries as it is inherent to their accession process. Central banks are facing increasingly complex challenges and their role in the EU accession process has gained in prominence and  significance. This conference aims to foster cooperation and dialogue among central banks of EU candidate and aspiring candidate countries in our region with a view to discussing common dilemmas and exchanging experiences.
