Counterfeit 200- and 1,000-Dinar Banknotes Discovered

The National Bank of Serbia would like to warn the public that counterfeited 1,000-dinar banknotes (originally issued by NBY) with the portrait of Djordje Vajfert have been discovered, as well as 200-banknotes (also originally issued by NBY) with the image of Nadežda Petrović. All NBS branches and sub-branches as well as all relevant institutions, banks, Post Office Service, etc. have been notified of the discovery of the counterfeit banknotes.

The size of the counterfeit 1,000-dinar banknotes broadly match the original ones, but the paper quality and the protective features lie in stark contrast, especially since the forged ones were printed on a color printer. The obverse and the reverse of the counterfeit notes have been printed on separate sheets of paper, subsequently glued together, which is quite easily noticeable since the paper becomes much less flexible. Also the counterfeit notes lack the important watermark element within the structure of the paper and a protective step silver thread with a micro text print, and instead have a poor imitation printed in a form of dark blots of a color printer to look like dark yellow, blue and read color threads. For the counterfeit 1,000-dinar banknote used were water dissoluble colors which visibly diverge from the nuances on the original banknotes. Also noticeable are differences in printing technique characteristics, crispness of lines and also the fact that the counterfeit banknotes do not have the UV-fluorescent yellow color on both obverse and reverse, says the warning issued by the NBS.

The counterfeit 200-dinar banknotes were also printed on the color printer, and already their size (68mm x 143 mm) does not match the original ones. These counterfeited notes, again printed applying the water dissoluble colors may be easily recognized by the lack of the watermark feature in the form of a portrait, OVD-kinegram, security thread and also yellowish threads in various colors, as well as lack of micro texts, and all intaglio printing security features which should be felt under the fingers, and also lack of dots in various colors on the white areas on both the obverse and the reverse of the note, says a statement from the National Bank of Serbia.
