Rebuttal of inaccurate claims about the composition of NBS delegation

In light of the heightened interest in the work and performance of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), and the frequent creative interpretations thereof, the NBS wishes to inform the public that Milena Tabaković is not an adviser to the NBS, is neither employed nor engaged by the NBS, and has never been so.

Furthermore, the members of the official delegation of the Republic of Serbia to the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group are proposed by the Governor and formally determined by a Conclusion of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. Over the past 14 years, under these Conclusions and following the Governor’s proposals, the delegation has comprised only the Governor, certain Vice-Governors and senior NBS officials, and has never had more than four members. The April Conclusion exceptionally provided for five members, but the Governor ultimately did not travel due to the obligations outlined in this statement.

The delegation has never included a media representative, unlike the practice followed by previous Governors.

As Ms Tabaković is a widow, she has never exercised the option of having a family member accompany the delegation, a practice that has been in place for decades at these meetings.

The NBS delegation attending the Annual Meetings comprises Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković, Vice-Governor Ana Ivković, Vice-Governor Nikola Dragašević, and Darko Stamenković, General Manager of the Bank Supervision Department.

The information that appeared on the IMF | World Bank Meetings digital platform, listing Milena Tabaković as an NBS adviser, was not provided by the NBS and does not correspond to the official documents establishing the composition of the delegation. The NBS is investigating which account was used to enter this information, how it was entered and on what grounds. Once the facts have been established, the NBS will take appropriate action and request that the information be corrected.

It is important to distinguish between information displayed on the participants’ platform and the officially determined composition of the state delegation.

The World Bank’s official website itself makes this distinction: government delegates are registered through the office of the relevant Executive Director, whereas the list of participants on the platform is a separate list of accredited participants visible in the system World Bank Annual Meetings 2026, as was the case in previous years.

With regard to the IMF and World Bank Group Spring Meetings held in April, which are the subject of the current interest, we wish to inform you that Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković did not attend the Meetings because developments in the interbank foreign exchange market so required. As Head of the delegation of the Republic of Serbia, she has always regarded these events as a priority. However, in view of global and domestic developments that also affected the domestic foreign exchange market, she gave priority to preserving the relative stability of the dinar exchange rate against the euro.

This BIRN article illustrates its “professional” approach to the NBS as an institution, to the Governor, but also to her family.
