Successful launch of “Phase II of the Programme for Strengthening the Capacities of Central Banks and Banking Supervisory Agencies in the Western Balkans with a view to the Integration to the European System of Central Banks”

Following successful completion of the first regional IPA project, a new, second in line three-year regional IPA project was officially launched today “Phase II of the Programme for Strengthening the Capacities of Central Banks and Banking Supervisory Agencies in the Western Balkans” (WB6 Phase II programme), implemented by the Deutsche Bundesbank, 19 national central banks of the European System of Central Banks and the European Central Bank.

The project’s goal is to strengthen monetary and financial stability in the region by preparing central banks for integration in the European System of Central Banks. The specific objective of this project is to upgrade the regulatory convergence and to further approximate to EU and international standards, while strengthening the functions of central banks and banking supervision systems and ensuring further alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis. Programme funding is ensured from the EU instrument for pre-accession assistance (IPA III).

The Programme envisages intensive training in key areas of central banking and supervision, with a special focus on anti-money laundering, bank supervision, financial stability, financial consumer protection and financial inclusion, bank resolution, communication, financial markets, information technology, monetary policy, payment systems, statistics, EU integration, accounting and internal audit.
