In 2019 the NBS will produce silver numismatic money with the portrait of Nikola Tesla, continuing the implementation of activities envisaged by the Tentative Agreement on Cooperation signed with Mish International Monetary Inc on 5 February 2018.
Pursuant to the Agreement, in each calendar year for the duration of the Agreement the NBS will produce 210,000 silver coins in line with the approved design and test coin, of which 10,000 pieces in the proof and 200,000 pieces in the proof-like technique, in accordance with the concluded individual contracts.
All the provisions of the Law on the National Bank of Serbia concerning the designation of the nominal value, issuing bank and issuing state, as well as the appearance of the obverse and reverse, have been taken into account when designing the said silver coins.
There is a single obverse that cannot be altered and is applicable for the five years of the duration of the Agreement (portrait of Nikola Tesla), while features on the reverse can be changed depending on the individual contract. The Agreement envisages at least five such changes so as to present minimum five inventions of Nikola Tesla. The ordering party is allowed to choose coin motifs and writings. The reverse of the silver coin to be produced in 2019 will feature a radio-controlled boat whereby Tesla demonstrated radio and wireless transmission.
The Republic of Serbia has a close interest in the project, as it promotes our country and our cultural and historical legacy worldwide and at the same time generates a significant positive financial effect.
The sale of silver coins with the portrait of Nikola Tesla, issued by the NBS in 2019, will soon be organised at the teller of the NBS Head Office, Nemanjina 17, as well as at the tellers of the NBS branches in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Niš and Užice.
