Today the NBS Call Center was contacted by a large number of citizens interested in the refinancing of credits disbursed from banks which unilaterally raised their interest rates in the course of repayment under the pretext of the effects of NBS measures. Around 900 calls were registered from 8 a.m. until noon, and unfortunately, due to technical restrictions, the NBS Call Center could not answer all of them immediately. The NBS kindly asks the citizens, whose getting through was prevented by overloaded phone lines, for understanding and patience; they may repeat their calls or send their questions by e-mail to informativni.centar@nbs.yu or by fax: 011/3202-232.
The NBS Call Center (working hours 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.) will answer all inquiries and provide a list of banks willing to offer credits for refinancing under more favorable terms. For the time being seven banks reported such willingness to the National Bank of Serbia. The citizens will be able to assess their offers and favorable terms and then make an informed choice. Individual refinancing terms will depend on the quality of the debtor and specific offer of each bank.
Later on in the afternoon the NBS will publish on its website http://www.nbs.yu/serbian/news/index.htm a preliminary list of banks offering refinancing credits so that the citizens themselves can get in touch with those institutions. The list will be updated on a regular basis.
The NBS wishes to thank the citizens for their trust and help in trying to influence the behavior of certain banks in accordance with the rules of market, competitive and transparent operating of financial institutions in the Serbian banking market.
